eBay Opens UK Marketplace to Approved CBD Sellers
eBay has reversed its global ban on selling CBD (Cannabidiol) products on the UK marketplace for approved sellers.
The growing CBD market in the UK was worth a staggering £690million in 2021, with demand for CBD products soaring during the lockdown. The UK is now the second-largest global market for CBD products, and eBay clearly sees an opportunity in the highly regulated industry.
Approved business sellers only
To sell in the gated CBD category, retailers must be registered business sellers on eBay and comply with UK laws and the marketplace’s rules and policies relating to cosmetics, food, and illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia.
The CBD category is not currently available to private sellers. As a result, any un-approved sellers (including business sellers) listing CBD products risk their eBay accounts being sanctioned and potentially having their selling privileges removed.
A statement on eBay’s customer services pages relating to CBD sales on the platform says:
CBD products that comply with all applicable legal requirements may only be sold by permitted sellers only.
Activity that doesn’t follow eBay policy could result in a range of actions, including for example: administratively ending or cancelling listings, hiding or demoting all listings from search results, lowering seller rating, buying or selling restrictions, and account suspension. All fees paid or payable in relation to listings or accounts on which we take any action will not be refunded or otherwise credited to your account.
Optimise your listing strategy
In what promises to be an incredibly competitive category, the most successful CBD sellers will understand the importance of building customer trust through professional branding. They will also benefit considerably by optimising their listings to comply with eBay seller best practices and value-added marketing technology.
Frooition is already working with a number of CBD sellers to ensure eBay becomes a high traffic and profitable channel for their products.

Ebay becomes first major UK marketplace to sell CBD products
Ebay has become the first mainstream marketplace in the UK to sell CBD, with a new category dedicated to the products in the health and beauty section.
The sale of CBD products on eBay was previously banned globally and the move is already being highly regulated.
The category is essentially gated, meaning sellers will need to be thoroughly vetted to ensure products are approved for use in the UK.
There is an ever-growing demand for CBD products and eBay are jumping on the bandwagon, albeit cautiously.
Ebay’s updated illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia policy reads: “CBD products that comply with all applicable legal requirements may only be sold by permitted sellers only. See the Food policy regarding CBD food products and the Cosmetics policy regarding CBD cosmetic products that are permitted for sale on eBay.”
“Activity that doesn’t follow eBay policy could result in a range of actions including for example: administratively ending or cancelling listings, hiding or demoting all listings from search results, lowering seller rating, buying or selling restrictions, and account suspension. All fees paid or payable in relation to listings or accounts on which we take any action will not be refunded or otherwise credited to your account.”
The first brand to launch its CBD products on Ebay is LoveHemp, selling its range of sprays, drops and edibles available in the health and beauty category.
“This is a significant development for the Company. eBay has 1.7 billion monthly visits and its Health and Beauty segment caters to an extremely wide-ranging market, providing Love Hemp with the opportunity to reach a new audience with its high-quality health and wellness products,” Love Hemp group chief executive officer Tony Calamita said.
